Mussels in Brussels
Well, I'm here to tell you, Brussels is fantastic. Not the least of which sentiment is influenced by our friends in Brussels: Patti, John, Reggie and Lindsay. They made us feel welcome and showed us a great time in the 36 hours or so we had in Brussels.
Some pictures of our tour with Patti can be viewed here.
We started with a tour of the Military Museum - which you can see in the photo album, which contained more interesting stuff than anyone could possibly view in one day. The aircraft area was particularly detailed, with real aircraft spanning the ages.
Most of the architecture looked as though it were constructed as part of a stage set. The Grand Platz took my breath away when we turned the corner. It was an unexpected wonder. I had heard others speak of it and thought, hmm, another interesting sight, but it truly was stunning.
And per the title of this post, I had Moules Mariniere (mussels in garlic, celery, white wine broth), fries and triple blonde Belgian beer for lunch. The beer was rich and hoppy, a perfect complement to the mussels. Carrie and Patti both had wiener schnitzel, was was also excellent.
The city, while full of life, is less crowded and somehow friendlier than Paris. Lots of things to see and do, most of which we'll have to come back for. I could probably stay here for a week more.
And now for a few words from Lindsay.....

See you in 24 hours, when we'll be back in the US!
